Bio

I received a Master degree "cum laude" in Computer Science in 1999 and a PhD in Computer Science in February 2004, both from the Università degli Studi di Milano.

Positions

Since April 2007 I am research fellow at the Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca

From April 2004 to March 2007 I was full time researcher at the ERTOS Program of NICTA (National ICT Australia).

Research interests

With my PhD thesis I introduced Temporal Reflection, a new kind of computational reflection performed by a computational system when it reasons at architectural level about temporal aspects of its own computations. At least some people on the InterWeb read it and liked it...

Technically I defined Temporal Reflection as the ability of a system to self-represent (reify), observe and control its own temporal behaviour.

Representative publications

This paper present the design and the implementation at user-level of a fine-grained adaptive real-time reflective scheduler for the L4 microkernel:

Sergio Ruocco
User-Level Fine-Grained Adaptive Real-Time Scheduling via Temporal Reflection
Proceedings of the 27th IEEE Real-Time Systems Symposium, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, December, 2006.

These three papers analyse various members of the L4 microkernels family from the point of view of real-time systems design and implementation. Note: The journal paper subsumes the older OSPERT 2006 paper, which should be now considered obsolete.
