The EvoClin project, currently under development as a university spin-off, has won 1st Prize at the 2025 National Innovation Award (PNI) in the Life Sciences and MedTech category.
This recognition marks the third major achievement by the team in just a few months, following victories at Falling Walls Lab Italy and StartCup Lombardia 2025, as well as the award of the CDP Venture Capital SGR Award by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti and the We Make Future - Search On Media Group Special Award.
The 2025 edition of the PNI took place in Ferrara on December 4th and 5th and featured the participation of 611 startup and spin-off projects, including 193 regional finalists and 76 national finalists from across Italy.
The EvoClin project involves Alex Graudenzi from the Department of Informatics, Systems and Communication at Unimib, Daniele Ramazzotti from the Department of Medicine, Ivan Civettini from Vita-Salute San Raffaele University, and Federico Cultrera di Montesano, and is currently included in the B4i - Bocconi for Innovation pre-acceleration program.
EvoClin develops innovative data analytics tools to support clinical decision-making, aimed at predicting tumor evolution and patient therapeutic response.
The computational ecosystem underlying the project leverages several patent-protected machine learning frameworks, trained on data from over 100,000 patients.
Tests performed on selected oncological diseases indicate that the platform is able to anticipate the onset of mutations and the progression of the disease progression, by relying exclusively on sequencing data already generated and used in current clinical practice.
These results confirm the importance of technology transfer in translating academic research into innovative solutions to real-world problems and show how the development of computational methods for biomedical data analysis can represent a paradigm shift in clinical practice.
